If someone mentioned the word intimacy, the human brain would conjure up images of two people having sex. It easily forgets what else it could mean. We never consider that intimacy starts with an I. We forget the intimacy one has with themselves. I time, I call it. Enjoying time with I. Dior one of my favourite fashion houses has definitely considered personal intimacy. With fabrics such as lace, silk, satin and chiffon. Victoria’s secret is quickly unravelled. You would think Galliano has created innerwear, but no innerwear is now outerwear. Bring the hidden to the surface. A concept many run away from. It's not the first time John has explored this idea. His couture collection utilised the same fabrics. For his S/S collection however, he takes inspiration from film noir, his muse being actress Lauren Bacall. It's apparent the collection was inspired by cinema it doesn't shy away from mixing things up. With lace trimmed shorts which could be seen as knickers, metallic lame dresses and trench coats. So,going from lingerie to military all within minutes of a quick change. Galliano knows how to play with sensuality and seduction. Evening dresses were draped and evoked a sense that the dresses would flow easily with the summer night breeze. Corseted sequin draped dresses romanticised the femininity of the dresses in the form of Madonna meets Aphrodite. Slips or the slip illusion (French) with their lack of underwear created a sense of transparency, be it see-through garments or through the way they highlight the lightness of the female aesthetic. The floral baby doll dresses seemed to place the Dior woman as a playful romantic who could easily heat things up by opting to wear a statement imposing red satin gown. The collections beauty is its versatility it is possible to wear some these pieces out and about or inside your normal attire. I commend Galliano for his love of softness; he definitely knows that what you make people feel is just as important as what you make.
